Thonburi,
the former capital city of thailand (1767 - 1782), is commonly know as "Fang Thon" or the area
on the west bank of the Cheo Phraya River. For more than a hundred years, this county has been inhabited by
people of different ethnics; i.e. Mon, Laotian, Arabians, Muslims and Chinese. Althought Thonburi at present has
become a part of the large Bangkok Metropolis, its distinguished identity : Thai lifestyles along the klongs or the
canals, waterway transportation, the floating market, orchards, temples, churches, mosques, architectural and
historical attractions all show their entire difference from Bangkok which are crowded with tall buildings, business
centers, government buildings, etc. Thai ways of life and culture in Thonburi are the pride and identity of its
inhabitants
